Biking in Blue Ridge and the Surrounding Areas
Blue Ridge is home to some of the region's most challenging Mountain Bike trails, as well as bountiful road biking opportunities. You can originate many rides right from the cabin door, and enjoy beautiful mountain scenery, or just down Aska Road are the Aska Trails area, which is part of the Toccoa Ranger District. All are easily accessed from Big Creek Base Camp.
The Aska trails all originate from one of two areas, Deep Gap on Aska Road; look for the brown sign, and Stanley Gap on Stanley Creek Road just up from the Toccoa Riverside restaurant. These trails are older trails, originally built for hiking but offer some great challenging and scenic singletrack. For a quick, less strenuous ride, the Long Branch Loop is a good choice. Get to the trailhead for this 2.3 mile loop by taking Aska Road back towards the town of Blue Ridge and turn right on Shady Falls Road, look for the Necowa Cove sign. Make your first left into the parking area. This is also a great place to park for the Turkey Farm loop as well. For other great regional biking opportunities there are many day trip spots like The Tanasi Trail system at the Ocoee Adventure Center in Ducktown, TN; just 30 minutes from Big Creek Base Camp, the fun and fast Jack Rabbit Trails in Hayseville, NC, or the many Trails in Ellijay and Dahlonega. Have fun, be safe, and always follow IMBA's rules of the trail. (Ride open trails only, leave no trace, control your bicycle, always yield trail, don't scare animals, and plan ahead.)
Road cyclist flock Blue Ridge to ride some of the most challenging and scenic roads in North Georgia. No wonder it is home to so many of the extreme cycling events, like the Tour de Georgia, Three gap, and Six Gap races, and The Blue Ridge Triathalon.
